Types of Airsoft BBs
It is impossible to play airsoft without having BBs. While the majority of BBs are about six millimeters in length, there are additional sizes available. For your purposes, you will mainly only need to worry about those that are 6mm in size.
Another type of BB comes in the 8mm size. The benefits of these BBs is that their larger size makes them more accurate, but not many guns can use them well without breaking. For this reason, you should concern yourself only with 6mm BBs.
Since size is largely negligible, due to the widespread use of 6mm BBs, the primary distinguishing characteristic is that of weight. Most BBs either weigh .12g or .20g, although there are other weights as well.
BBs that weigh less cost less, because they are less dense and therefore are made with weaker or less material. Although they are cheaper, they are truly inferior to .20g BBs, because they cannot go as far or travel as accurately.
In order to utilize .20g BBs, you need to have a relatively durable airsoft gun. If you try to use these kinds of BBs with weak airsoft guns, they are likely to break after only a few games.
As stated, the most common weights are the ones focused on here. It is important to note that there are heavier pellets that can be used too. However, they are produced in low quantities due to almost nonexistent demand.
Weight and size are not the only things that distinguish BBs from one another. There are several special features that are frequently found in ammunition to make them more practical. For example, tracer pellets light up as they fly through the air, making them perfect for night games.
As you can see, you have many choices when it comes to purchasing BBs for airsoft. It is best to buy a lot of ammuntion at once, for two reasons. First, you save money when buying in bulk, and second, you save yourself the need to constantly repurchase BBs in the future.
